Ford Motor Company Staff Cafeteria Homebush 1986
Art in Working Life, Community Mural Project
Artists David  Humphries, Rodney Monk, Ashley Taylor
Organised by Trades &  Labour  Council

The mural was designed to visually open out  the cafeteria space by painting a view of a terrace through sliding glass doors. The painting gave the illusion of extending the cafeteria activities outside.
The interaction with the staff led to the creation of a whimsical fantasy outside the window with a mixture of folk heroes and workers antics  adding to the performance.
Photographs of actual staff were used as reference  and reflected the changing nature of the work force. The artists observations of  the multi ethnic make up of the workforce are expressed in many levels of  detail, for example the pie warmers are nowadays stacked with rice steamers.
